Rough Campsite Location

This year will be DrachenFest’s first time at Cooper’s Lake. We hope this will be our “forever home”, and are ready to share some details about where we’ll be on the campsite this year.

We’ve agonized over the decision about where to center DrachenFest. Our ideal space has…

  • relatively flat ground for battles and camping

  • a central battlefield

  • shade

  • minimal flood risk

  • easy access to water points

  • access to power points for the bazaar

  • enough room for everybody

  • But not so much room that the camps take 20+ minutes to travel between. Camps should be able to react to each other being attacked, Dragon Eggs moving, etc.

There is no single spot on the campsite which checks all these boxes, each spot has tradeoffs of one kind or another. Based on site visits and consultation with veterans of Cooper’s Lake events, we have selected the area called Lakeview as our central game space for 2023. Here’s a rough map:

We know you are eager to find out which of these locations belongs to which camp! However, final camp locations will remain flexible until game setup begins - please plan as if you may be camping in any of those areas: Anticipate slight slopes, no power points inside the camp, and access to water taps will be, at the very most, a short walk from your front gate.

Please keep in mind that many factors may impact layout - this plan may shift before game due to site conditions, safety issues, camp headcounts, and other factors that we can’t anticipate.

Cooper’s Lake is a legendary campsite, and can’t wait to land there with you.

Do we have an idea where the OOG tent area will be or is that still being decided?

Each camp has its own OOG tent area, towards the back.

The camp positions shown here are about 200 ft from center to center. The diameter of each camp reduces the distance between them. Each camp will be within site of the others. Adjacent camps could be just beyond bow shot. If you like to turn in early, bring earplugs. Because you WILL hear the party at Blue Camp.

Those in the Bazaar with period tents or rented tents will be camping in the Bazaar zone? Since the Bazaar area seems like it'll be located on RV hook up sites., if we need power I'm assuming try to run cords in an inconspicuous manner.(I.e. try to avoid bright orange?) I know it say sewage hook ups. Does that also allow for drinking water? I've only been camping once and never RVing so I don't know what's normal. Figured I'd ask since others might also not know.

As the game grows this specific section might be a bit small, though i suspect we can utilize more ground at coopers as it does. Some travel time between camps is not a bad thing. Ambushes and strategic attack's can be utilized better with some terrain features between each other. Also i admit seeing a proper army march for a bit would just be awesome to behold.

I just hope that the camps are spread far enough apart. By the looks of it they are atleast 200 ft apart. But with bigger camps that doesn't seem like alot. I hope that there is either trees or some sort of barrier/coverage between camps. I just do not want to look out my tent and see red, green, blue, or shadow 5 ft from me.

If you've never been to the site before Coopers has a great interactive map and some videos of the camp on their website to help you get an idea of the space. Comparing the two maps it looks like all the camps will likely be easily within view of each other at the very least, but it'll be hard to say exactly how far apart until camp sizes are known.
